Growing a Farmer post #2

Towards the end of the book, we start to see Timmermeister's view of world embedded in his farming practices. He obviously failed several times because of his lack of knowledge in farming, but I really enjoyed his honesty. He never tries to hide his mistakes, but he writes as much or more about his failures than struggles than his success in farming. He gradually reveals his perspective throughout the book. He says, " If I wanted to live in Europe, I would pack my bags and move. My goal here is to live my American life on my little farm, eating great food; food with integrity, not food that is imitative of my counterparts a continent away.” He is exactly aware of what he has to do, but his goal is solidified - regardless of failures, he insists on carrying his plans and actions because he feels greater satisfaction in finding success at the end this way. His lifestyle reflects something truly American: striving to achieve success by walking on our own path. Overall, this boo...

Job Description

M&A Investment Banking Analyst What is an Investment Bank? Investment Bank is like an agent. We don’t create anything and we don’t buy anything. We just sell things that aren’t ours to begin with. We take profit off from a client once we complete our transaction. Investment Banks act as the middlemen between sources of capital and uses of capital – those who have capital and those who need it. Sounds greedy? It might look so on the surface, but I chose this job as a business student at USC and although many people are not familiar with such career, M&A investment banking analysts offer services deeply rooted in today’s economy. Who is an M&A Investment Banking Analyst?             Simply put, M&A investment banking analysts evaluate the worth of a possible acquisition and assist parties to eventually arrive at a fair price from beginning to end. We typically spend 70-90 hours a week in the office p...

Growing a Farmer Post #1

The title of this book initially sounded boring as I don't find any kind of farming relevant with my life. But, Growing a Farmer vividly depicts one man's journey of becoming a farmer while experiencing failures and sometimes enjoying triumphs. Started as a restaurant owner, Kurt's transition into a farmer and his discussions of different eclectic aspects of the his farm resonates to anyone who has an experience of embarking a completely new journey.  As a graduating senior, I found the first half of this book a lot relevant than I expected. My mindset as a senior is now the total opposite of that of my freshman year. I constantly worry about possible failures after graduation and sometimes doubt if the decisions I've made throughout college will be worth it at the end. Because the responsibilities that come with my choices from now on will weigh a ton more than it used to, I have to be resilient and bounce back from my failures sometimes in a stoic manner. Also, Kur...

Jeff Lee - Who You Are Matters

Hi everyone, my name is Jeff Lee. I was born in Korea and came to America in 5th grade. It's difficult to exactly say where I come from since I've lived in Riverside, Irvine, Diamond Bar and Seoul throughout my life, but I'd say I am from a small town called Diamond Bar, CA. Exclusively centered on education, the town only has the basic infrastructure needed to be considered as a city. It is heavily populated by Asians and it is actually not as boring as I make it sound to be because it is close to other major cities in Southern California. Coming to USC as a Marshall student, my original career goal was to become a corporate lawyer, but after taking WRIT 150, I concluded that I lack one of the most important skills to become a lawyer. After going through a careful internal analysis and self-exploration, I chose to dive into investment banking recruiting process. As a senior about to graduate in 5 months, I will be working as an investment banking analyst in Rothschild...
