Random Post: 5 Lessons I've Learned in College

I have 3 more months left in college until I graduate. It feels surreal to become an adult and to be honest, I am not ready yet - I won't be able to wake up at 2pm after missing two morning classes. USC is a great school, but most of the seniors like me probably agree that I've learned more about my life than academics. Below are 7 lessons I've learned in college that I will take with me after graduation.

Make it a habit to call your parents
As much as I grew up as an individual for 4 years in college, I can see my parents gradually aging. Their energy isn't the same, their wrinkles are getting deeper, and they don't have much time left with us. After graduating from college, most of us will be living our lives, striving to support ourselves. As I started to support myself this year, I realized how difficult it would be to make sacrifices and try best to make children happy like our parents do. This senior year really opened my eyes and I have the utmost respect for my parents for raising me up the way they did. Calling your parents and having a simple conversation with them to talk about how we are doing definitely make their days better. We won't ever know the love of parents until we become one so let's give it a try a little bit early.

Getting a job is a compromise
I always wanted to become a soccer player when I was young. As unrealistically as that sounds, we grow up having ideal occupations we want to have when we become adults. However, it becomes difficult to constantly pursue our ideal jobs as we encounter that reality isn't so easy. We grow to learn our lack of abilities and the fierce competition prevalent in this generation. Therefore, I came to conclude that picking your first job is not really a make-or-break situation. There will be some sacrifices in choosing a certain job, but this is only the beginning. I advise everyone to fully enjoy your job. Yes, sometimes it will be hard, but no one can really be 100% satisfied with their jobs.

Know your roots
Some friends last lifetime while some come and leave. But, we often make a mistake of overlooking friends that must last a lifetime. Friends who show their love in troubled times, friends who stick with you when you are at the very bottom, friends who can embrace your biggest flaws, and friends who you can afford to be stupid with them are the ones that you need to keep for a long time.

Dive into a real relationship
I am not talking about one-night-stands or casual hook-ups. A real relationship takes a lot of commitment, time and energy. But, once the relationship is over and you feel that all that time was worth it, then you were successful. Not only you learn to care for your loved one, but you become aware of yourself and your values.

Enjoy while you can
No matter what people say, enjoy your life while it's possible. The transition from college life to an adult life is going to be quite drastic. From spontaneous bar hopping to getting blacked out from parties, we will forever cherish these memories in college. We won't have enough time to enjoy the college life ever again. So, enjoy while it lasts.
